Overview
The Mt Buller Alpine Resort is 250km north east of Melbourne and occupies an area of 2300ha of which 850ha are devoted to Resort operations.
Rising to an altitude of 1805 metres above sea level, the Resort embodies some of Victoria's most spectacular alpine and sub-alpine terrain. Located at the eastern extremities of the Delatite River catchement, Mt Buller Alpine Resort adjoins other significant tracts of public land managed by the Department of Natural Resources and Environment.
Mt Buller is clearly emerging as Australia's best all season alpine resort.
It offers 180ha of ski trails as well as wide, open space above the tree line. The longest ski trail is 2.5km with an average snowfall of 1.5m.
There are 25 ski lifts, capable of moving 40,000 people every hour. And since the maximum number of people skiing is approximately 10,000 at peak periods, there are no delays in catching a ski lift.
The season opens in early June, although snowmaking generally begins in late May, provided weather conditions are suitable. The season closes in late September, as the alpine resort begins to assume its glorious Springmantle.
The Mt Buller Alpine Resort is only a three hour drive from Melbourne. There are 7000 beds available at the Resort in hotels, commercial lodges and clubs. A further 2300 guest beds are available in nearby towns such as Mansfield, less than a 45 minute driveaway.
